ASUS W1N Linux Sound Fix Petition

This issue has been resolved (not thanks to ASUS). Read here!

To: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
To whom it may concern,

We, the undersigned, are Linux users who own or are considering the purchase of a ASUS W1000N Notebook.

Even though the built in sound chip (CMI9739) is supported by three different Linux drivers, W1N owners have not been able to make use of the soundcard under Linux using the notebook's speakers. As the W1N is a multimedia-notebook, the lack of Linux support will no doubt cause further inconvenience to many more W1N buyers who want to use Linux on this notebook.

Therefore, we ask that ASUSTeK provides a bios (or any other) fix that makes sound without headphones possible, either using ALSA, OSS or the driver provided by C-Media.

We are confident that fixing this small bug will prove beneficial to both ASUSTeK and the W1N users.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned
